What is on the November 3, 2026 Ballot?

Sylvania Schools is asking the voters to consider a 1% Earned Income Tax with a 1.7 Mill Property Tax Reduction.

The 1.7 Mill Property Tax Reduction would decrease property taxes by $35 for every $100,000 of assessed home value. For example, a home valued at $300,00 would save about $105 per year with a 1.7 mill property tax reduction.

Who Pays the Earned Income Tax?

The 1% applies to earned income only (W-2 and self-employment profit) not to retirement income. Earned Income from W-2 wages is found in Box 1 of your W-2. The tax is applied after all pre-tax deductions are subtracted such as Traditional 401(k)/403(b) contributions, health, dental, and vision insurance premiums, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions.

Applies Only To:

✅ Wages, salaries, bonuses, commissions - all employment income

✅ Self-employment income (Sole proprietorships, Independent Contractors (1099), Farm Income)

Does Not Apply to:

🚫 Social Security and Pension Income

🚫 IRA, 401k, 403b, 457, and Roth Distributions

🚫 Investment Income – Interest, Dividends, Capital Gains

🚫 Estate, Trust, Inheritance, Gifts, Life Insurance, Disability, Workers’ Comp, and Alimony Distributions

🚫 All other Retirement Benefits and Distributions  Only residents of Sylvania Schools pay the tax.

Non-residents working inside the district do NOT pay the tax.

What's at Stake?

Prevent Reductions. Protect Our Future.

Sylvania Schools do more than educate our youth. They support, inspire, prepare. They provide stability and safety. Sylvania students graduate with options because they are exposed to a variety of programs and services that meet their needs and allow them to fulfill their potential. From AP courses to athletics, students have the opportunity to embrace what makes them unique.

Our children are the future. They deserve every opportunity to be successful. Those opportunities begin in our schools. Strong, well-funded schools protect property values, attract businesses, create jobs and strengthen communities. Show your support by voting YES on November 3rd.

Frequently Asked Questions

"By supporting this levy, you aren't just funding classrooms; you are investing in a proven pipeline that turns local students into leaders."

Josh Melick (Northview Class of 2013), Google

"Our schools are truly the heart of this community, and a strong district not only supports our students' success but also strengthens our local economy and protects our housing values."

Matt & Jessica Harsh, Sylvania Alumni & Parents

"Sylvania Schools provided the foundation for both my academic and athletic success, and the strength of this district is one of the main reasons my wife and I have chosen to make Sylvania our home as we look ahead to raising our future children here."

Alek West (Northview Class of 2019), UT Medical School

"My son, Isaac, may never sit in an AP classroom or enroll in a career-tech program. But that is exactly why I support this levy. Because strong schools aren’t built for just one kind of student, they are built for EVERY student."

    Tara Haye, Sylvania Parent
